About Us
Our Story
Growing up in extreme poverty in Nigeria, Adeola Ajayi (known as “AD” to his friends and colleagues in America) faced limited access to basic basketball facilities and equipment. However, his determination earned him a high school basketball scholarship in the US in 2009. Soon, college scouts took notice, but severe shin injuries during his junior year derailed his chances for basketball scholarships.
After graduating, Adeola attended the College of the Ozarks, a work college outside of Branson, MO, and made the basketball team and played through the pain. However, after his first season worsening injuries led to two major surgeries, including one to save his life. Despite his determination, persistent pain forced him to forfeit his basketball career in 2013.
Rather than letting these setbacks define him, Adeola turned his challenges into a mission. In 2019, he founded the Adeola Ajayi Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering underprivileged children in Africa through basketball and community outreach.
Growing up in extreme poverty in Nigeria, Adeola Ajayi faced numerous challenges, including limited access to basic basketball facilities and proper equipment. Despite these obstacles, Adeola was determined to succeed. In 2009, his dedication and perseverance paid off and he earned a high school basketball scholarship in the US—a dream that many underprivileged children in Africa aspire to achieve.
Once in the US, Adeola’s talent quickly caught the attention of college scouts, and his future looked bright. However, during his junior year, Adeola began experiencing sharp pains in his shins, which were later diagnosed as severe stress fractures. Despite the pain, Adeola refused to give up. He played through his senior season, but the injuries took their toll, and his performance suffered. As a result, he lost the chance for the basketball scholarships, shattering his college plans.
After graduating in 2011, he spent a couple months unsure of his next move. Later that year, he discovered the College of the Ozarks—a work college outside of Branson, MO. Despite his injuries, Adeola made the basketball team and he played through the 2012 season. However, worsening pain throughout the season led to major surgery, where rods were placed in both shins. While recovering, life-threatening complications forced him into a second emergency surgery just three days later.
His road to recovery was a long one, including learning how to walk again. Despite all of the challenges he faced and his determination to return to the court, the pain in his shins persisted when he played in the 2013 season, ultimately leading him to forfeit his basketball career.
Rather than allowing these setbacks to define him, Adeola transformed his hardship into a mission to make a difference. In 2019, he channeled his passion and experience into founding the Adeola Ajayi Foundation—a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to empowering underprivileged children in Africa through basketball and community outreach.
Since our founding in 2019, we’ve:
- Hosted 5 camps with a total of 750+ children in attendance
- Reconstructed the only basketball court in the town of Sango Ota so the children have a safe environment to play
- Donated over 1,700 pairs of shoes, 3,750 meals, and 1,400 jerseys

Our Mission
The Adeola Ajayi Foundation is dedicated to uplifting underprivileged communities in Africa by empowering the next generation through basketball and community support. We provide children (ages 4-17) with a nurturing and inspiring environment where they can grow as individuals and athletes, instilling confidence, discipline, and determination.
Through our annual basketball camp and community outreach, we aim to make a lasting impact by offering essential resources, fostering skill development, and creating opportunities beyond the court. Our mission extends beyond sports, as we strive to uplift entire communities, provide access to basic needs, and build a legacy of opportunity for future generations.
Our Vision
Our vision is to create a world where every child, regardless of their background or circumstances, has the opportunity to thrive, develop their potential, and positively impact their community through access to education, sports, and essential resources.
